Programme Aims

This is the Senior Year Entry 2-year BSc (Hons) Tourism and Events Management programme.

The BSc(Hons) in Tourism and Events Management combines the theory and practice of business tourism with a customer-service orientation to produce graduates who can perform in a variety of tourism and events industry positions.  The programme also enables students to develop specialised expertise in attractions/airline or China tourism/urban tourism.  Graduates can progress rapidly to management level positions within this sector.

This multidisciplinary programme prepares students for careers at the management level in the tourism and the broader service industries, either locally or internationally.

Students will learn to be customer-focused, analytical and independent, and at the same time develop communication and leadership skills.  They gain a global perspective to meet the growing challenges that are faced by the dynamic tourism and hotel industries.




Students are exposed to a wide variety of subjects in their areas of study, and develop their own expertise through Career Track option and the Honours Thesis/Capstone Project option.

The Work-Integrated Education (i.e. the Cooperative Education Scheme placement) is an important feature through which students can gain work experience, either locally or overseas.

In addition to normal classroom teaching, field trips and visits are also widely used as teaching and learning methods.

The School of Hotel and Tourism Management recognises that language and multicultural skills are two important qualities that graduates need to succeed in today's global hospitality and tourism industry.  Hence, students can apply for exchange study at an overseas university for a semester.

Career Prospects

As graduates and after some years of experience, students will be qualified for management positions in the tourism and events and broader service sectors.

Tourism and events management graduates are well prepared for opportunities in the travel and tourism related sector including tourist attractions, local and overseas national tourism offices, destination management companies, convention and exhibition organisers, professional meeting planners, museums and historic sites, recreation sites, theme parks, airlines, airports, ground transportation and car rental companies, cruise ships, tour operators, travel agents and professional tourism and events organizations.


This is a senior entry programme into the 3rd year of a 4-year degree programme.

In the first semester of the first year of study, students mainly study General University Requirement (GUR) subjects, including Cluster Area Requirement (CAR) and Service-Learning subjects. They also study Common Subjects and Discipline-specific Subjects.  The second semester is mainly Work-Integrated Education (WIE).  Some students may also go for one semester of exchange study in the second semester of the first year.

In the second and final year of study, students choose one of the 2 Career Track Options: Tourism Sector or Events Sector.  During this year, they also choose the Honours Thesis option or the Capstone Project option.

There is no Major/Minor option in the Senior Year Entry programme.

Entrance Requirements

  • Higher Diploma in Tourism, Hotel, or MICE related programmes; OR
  • Associate Degree in Tourism, Hotel, or Convention and Event management OR in Business (with Hospitality or Tourism focus).
  • Local applicants with equivalent qualifications and discipline orientations to the above will also be considered based on academic merit and subject to a successful interview.
  • Mature individuals with relevant academic qualifications and industry experience may also be considered.
  • Preference will also be given to applicants with good results in languages.
  • Interviews will be arranged for suitable candidates based on academic results obtained in the HD or AD programmes.
