Department of Electronic and Information Engineering
Doctor of Philosophy / Master of Philosophy
Sept 2020 Entry
Electronic Engineering at PolyU dates back to the early 1970s. The Department of Electronic and Information Engineering (EIE) aims to solve complex problems with innovative ideas and to produce high impact research that is relevant to industry and society. Major research endeavours within the Department are focused into areas such as Optical Communications and Networks, Signal Processing and Artificial Intelligence, Optics and Photonics, and Future Wireless Networks, Intelligent Energy Systems and IoT. Currently, over a hundred research projects are being undertaken. These projects are mostly funded by the Hong Kong government, the Chinese mainland government or our industrial partners such as Alibaba, Huawei and PCCW/HKT. Most of the Department’s research students will receive financial support during their PhD study. Every year, a few candidates nominated by the Department will be awarded the prestigious Hong Kong PhD Fellowship (HK$25,800 per month studentship in 2019/20). Many of our research degree graduates continue their career paths by becoming a researcher/an academic in local/overseas/mainland institutions or in international renowned companies such as Huawei, Tencent and Alibaba. Some even start their own companies to pursue their dreams.
Applications are now invited for registration on our full-time programme leading to the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)/Master of Philosophy (MPhil) by research in EIE. Please browse the e-prospectus to learn more about our research degree study programmes and EIE research interests.
We very much look forward to welcoming you to EIE!
