Student Message

Studying in the MSc in Manipulative Physiotherapy programme at PolyU was a memorable! The programme not only consolidated my clinical skills but also opened my mind to clinical reasoning. I am grateful that the learning experience has helped me in my career as both a frontline clinician and clinical educator.

The programme provided us with top quality academic staff, up-to-date materials and very practical learning opportunities. The most fruitful parts were the clinical reasoning forums, which allowed us to have in-depth discussions about real cases with experienced and renowned manipulative physiotherapists. This exposure deepened my understanding and broadened my horizons in handling complicated cases in a holistic manner. My clinical management skills were also sharpened through clinical placements under the supervision of experienced manipulative physiotherapists.

The programme allowed me to fulfil my ambition of acquiring professional knowledge, and provided me with rich exposure in manipulative physiotherapy.

The programme heavily emphasised clinical reasoning, which our professors consistently invoked in-line with Maitland concepts of manipulative therapy. The course modules were excellent – not hectic or tiring, but rather informative, clear and workable. Classroom work prepared us for intensive clinical placements with sound knowledge of evidence-based Maitland principles. During the placements our supervisors took fantastic care of us, showing us how to use our newly gained knowledge and interpret our own clinical reasoning to treat patients through the proper selection of effective treatment techniques. I strongly recommend this course for physiotherapy students who want to specialise in manipulative therapy.

Being enrolled in postgraduate training in manual therapy was not that simple in the 1990s when I received my undergraduate degree. Yet, I finally made my dream come true by joining the PolyU MSc in Manipulative Physiotherapy. I highly recommend the programme.

Starting with the details of making a physical diagnosis, the programme progresses logically through every single spinal and peripheral treatment technique. Students are given much guidance along the way, which ensures that they can use even the most advanced skills.

Although Maitland’s approach is highlighted, experts in other approaches to manual therapy are also invited to give lectures in the programme. That really helps students to broaden their professional knowledge!
