Student Message

The faculty at #PolyUSHTM and its interconnection with Hotel ICON allow students to see the application of various theoretical concepts and draw on examples from the industry in class. SHTM staff have industry experiences that they use to make links between theory and practice. This is one of the key aspects of higher education that contributes to students’ employability after they graduate. Furthermore, students have the opportunity to experience multiple locations, scrutinise the local hospitality markets and draw comparisons among three continents. During the business field trips, we get the chance to meet general managers, departmental managers and local tourism officials and personally enquire about the issues and trends that currently define the industry itself. Having all these options helps me gain a bigger picture of the industry as a whole, all while accentuating the differences between practices across the globe.

Adam GAŠPAROVIČ

Being part of the MGH programme enables me to develop global perspectives, experience diverse cultures and enhance my competitiveness. Besides, the strong alumni networks provide me with more opportunities for my future career. At #SHTM, we have a comprehensive curriculum design with courses including marketing, quality service, revenue management and strategies in the Chinese market, all of which aim to develop in us both operational skills and strategic thinking from a long-term perspective. Our practical experience is enhanced, with Hotel ICON serving as a platform for students to understand and experience hotel operation and management in the real world, providing good learning opportunities to apply knowledge to practice. With the hospitality industry in Asia booming and the Chinese market expected to have a significant impact on future hospitality development, it’s important to understand the context of Asian market and the needs of Asian customers to be a future hospitality leader.
