I am grateful to have successfully enrolled in the MSc programme in Manipulative Physiotherapy, I regard my 2-year learning experience as invaluable. Not only did the first year of the course provide us with the latest research findings regarding various musculoskeletal conditions, but it also allowed us to exercise clinical reasoning skills, which were essential to making diagnoses during assessment.

I believe that theory and practice should go hand in hand. The clinical placement sessions in the second year offered me ample opportunities to apply what I had learned to real patients. The in-depth discussion and demonstration led by the experienced clinical instructors broadened my understanding of musculoskeletal dysfunctions and sharpened my manual techniques.

Thanks to the enormous support and flexibility offered by the Department, we also had the chance to conduct clinical research that emphasised the importance of evidence-based learning.

This Master's course, with its all-round training, is definitely not one to miss.

“Analyse with reason. Treat with hands”. This programme highlighted clinical reasoning skills, which are of utmost importance in analysing problems and planning treatments. The course modules are evidence-based and convey clear, informative and up-to-date knowledge. In-depth discussion forums with experienced physiotherapists were organised, which further polished my reasoning skills. During intensive clinical placements, clinical educators provided excellent guidance that helped me integrate my knowledge with practice. In addition, after case sharing and discussions amongst peers and supervisors, I took a big step forward in planning my own treatment holistically and selecting manual techniques effectively. If you want to improve your reasoning skills and become a specialist in treating people with your hands, I strongly recommend this course.

I am proud to be a graduate of this comprehensive postgraduate programme. Besides the principles and practice of manipulative physiotherapy, the programme includes modules teaching research methods, data analysis, and diagnostic imaging, as well as the sharing of up-to-date evidence-based practice in managing various kinds of neuro-musculoskeletal conditions.

The main strength of this program lies in its considerable contact time, with practical sessions emphasising real-time feedback and mentoring for students. Clinical reasoning forums at which expert manipulative physiotherapists are invited to speak help students to understand the holistic management of some selected complicated cases through discussion with expert clinicians. Most valuably, the programme features intensive clinical placements supervised by experienced manipulative physiotherapists, allowing students to gain a deep understanding of clinical reasoning, formulating physical diagnoses and the corresponding treatment plans. There are also ample chances to practice hands-on manual therapy techniques.

There has recently been some modification and restructuring of the programme. More emphasis has been placed on the inter-connections between diagnosis and classification of neuro-musculoskeletal conditions, pain mechanisms, intervention efficacy, and motor control interventions in the field of manual therapy.

Graduates of this programme are not equipped merely with skills in performing manipulative physiotherapy techniques. Even more importantly, they have developed an analytical mind capable of critically appraising the current evidence and practice in the neuro-musculoskeletal physiotherapy field.
