Working as a full-time nurse while studying for a Master’s degree programme was challenging but rewarding. The Master of Science in Nursing programme at PolyU equipped me with the specialised knowledge, competencies, and skills I need to take the role of an advanced practice nurse. The study pattern is flexible. This allowed me to set my own study pace and choose the courses that I was interested in. With academic supervision and guidance by an experienced preceptor at my workplace, in the practicum, I initiated, implemented and led a quality improvement project in my serving unit. This was a valuable experience. I gained leadership and problem-solving abilities, time management skills, and learned more about statistical analysis. Looking back, I am glad that I overcame these challenges and earned a Master’s degree in nursing. I am sure that the learning and experience will take my career to the next level. CHAN Kei Wai |  |
 | I obtained my Bachelor of Nursing (conversion programme) at La Trobe University and pursued the Master of Science in Nursing programme at PolyU. The School of Nursing offers a flexible study option. Students can design the length of their study and choose from a wide variety of specialty electives. Online subjects are available to help employed students save commuting time.
On the PolyU campus, the library and its workshops provide excellent research supporting services. I enjoyed participating in artistic and cultural activities, such as jazz funk dance, photography, traditional Chinese archery, Chinese painting and calligraphy courses.
During my study, I had many opportunities to broaden my horizons. For example, I joined the Guangzhou exchange trip in 2016 and was awarded the third prize at the Nursing Postgraduate Forum. This experience was amazing! In 2017, I was awarded the Ida Martinson Scholarship to undergo a placement in Florida, US. In 2018, I participated in the 7th International Conference and Exhibition on Pain Research and Management, held in Zurich, Switzerland, and presented a study entitled "Perspective on Pain Management Using Traditional Chinese Medicine: East Meets West".
