Student Message

Student Message

The Master of International Shipping and Transport Logistics at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University enabled me to have a bird’s eye view to global and international logistics and operations. Such knowledge helped me to understand the essence of profitability in the logistics industry and investigate the effects of supply-chain disruptions. It also enabled me to understand the traditional nature of the shipping industry and study the research papers authored by the department’s professors on the development and modernisation of this business.

Other than the academic knowledge, this program offered me self-development opportunities through mentorship. Throughout my studies, I had the chance to work closely with and learn from several professors, who have been great mentors in promoting my self-development. These professors’ backgrounds in the logistics/shipping industry helped me to develop a different and more practical view of the industry.

I think that the Department of Logistics and Maritime is one of the most efficient and helpful departments in PolyU as it has been very responsive and helpful with my visa, documentation and other urgent requests.

The value of students is also highly appreciated in this department. For example, I have been called as a student representative to several high-level Departmental Advisory Meetings. My opinions were much welcomed and humbly appreciated.

Overall, my journey in this faculty has been fruitful, and I am glad that I chose this subject for my master studies.

The MSc ISTL programme not only provided me with in-depth insights into maritime and transport logistics but also untold opportunities for career development. Composed of knowledgeable professors and industry leaders, the faculty and supportive teams spared no efforts to pass on their knowledge to students, even in the difficult period of the pandemic. The extensive alumni networks comprise many outstanding alumni who share resources from which where we can obtain career instructions and recruitment information. By participating in seminars and forums organised by LMS, we can update our knowledge of the ongoing developments in shipping, aviation, transport and logistics and cultivate our business sense, as well as understand employers’ needs, which allows us to prepare for future work.

In addition to practical knowledge and job opportunities, what impressed me most is the inclusiveness of our programme. My classmates were from a variety of background, some with profound experience in the logistics industry while others were newcomers. The well-designed curriculum structure had balanced offering of advanced knowledge and easy-to-understand theory, which are cornerstones to prepare the students.
