Aims and Characteristics

Programme Aims & Learning Outcomes

This programme aims to produce graduates with the professional knowledge and skills that are relevant for a professional technologist in the field of electronic and information engineering. Graduates of the programme are ready to either advance to a higher level of study or pursue a career in the relevant fields.

 

Programme Characteristics

Students gain a solid foundation in the mainstream of electronic and information engineering. They are also required to study general subjects such as mathematics, physics and English.

 

Graduates may be considered for admission to  degree programmes in Hong Kong, including those programmes offered by the Department with credit transfers.

Career Prospects

The curriculum is designed to train technologists to meet the needs of the electronic and information engineering industry in both the manufacturing and service sectors. The local manufacturing industry requires incorporated engineers in the areas of design, research and development, testing and quality control. The industry's service sector mainly consists of service providers in the field of telecommunications and in the sales of electronic and information products such as computers and electronic equipment. These service providers require trained technical personnel for maintenance, customer service, field applications, technical support and marketing.

Curriculum

  • Year One covers Foundation Subjects in electronic and information engineering and general subjects, including mathematics, physics and English.
  • In Year Two, students receive more training in the core technical subjects. They can specialise in certain areas of study by choosing from amongst Elective Subjects.

Student Message


During my two years of study in the Higher Diploma in Electronic and Information Engineering programme I completed many practical projects in addition to gaining knowledge and learning theories. I also had the chance to attend laboratory sessions, receive Industrial Centre training and conduct an integrated project. As part of a group, I was involved in scheduling, budgeting, designing and producing listening aids. After finishing the project, our supervisor helped us to borrow professional acoustic measuring equipment to test the aids. This practical experience will be of great help for my future career. University life provides invaluable learning and practical experiences that will prepare you to face the many challenges in life after graduation.

我覺得在香港理工大學讀書的這兩年比起中學的學習生活更為自由,除了上課的時間更有彈性外,學校的環境舒適、設施完備,凡此都能令學生在學習上倍感便捷自在。

 

電子及資訊工程學系(EIE)一班大約有70人,學生置身其中感覺這裡好像一個大家庭。課程主要包括通訊(communication)、電子線路設計(electronic circuit design)、軟件設計和開發(software design and development)等,各個相關科目均能啟發學生在不同方面有所發展。

 

經過這兩年的認真學習,我自覺個人的學習方式和以前相比有所不同。我現在更為著重對學科的了解遠多於死記硬背,並在邏輯思考方面相較之前進步了不少。另外,本課程注重培養學生掌握實際應用的技巧,特別是在工業中心的訓練,除了為學生提供一個寶貴的實踐機會外,更能為學生將來投身社會工作打好基礎。我最喜歡EIE的地方,是在眾多科目中既有教授硬件(hardware)的部份,又有教授軟件(software)的部份。EIE的老師均樂意耐心地解答同學的問題。在學習上遇到困難時,我會主動去找老師協助。透過這兩年的專業學習,我學懂怎樣編寫程式,如何把程式應用在微控制器(microcontroller)上,以及掌握不同的應用方案等,可說是獲益良多。
