Except for Chinese-related subjects and specially approved schemes / programmes, English is used for classes, written assignments and examinations.
Starting from the 2022/23 academic year, PolyU will adopt departmental scheme-based admission instead of programme-based admission in order to provide a broader educational base and a more flexible progression pathway for students, as well as a more agile mechanism to meet changing societal manpower needs. These changes will provide greater flexibility for students in their choice of degree programmes and specialisations.
To prepare students for the challenges brought by the emerging technologies of the Fourth Industrial Revolution and in support of the development of innovation and technology industries in Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area, elements of "Artificial Intelligence and Data Analytics" (AIDA) and "Innovation and Entrepreneurship" (IE) will be embedded into our undergraduate programme curriculum from the 2022/23 academic year in three forms: (a) as mandatory components of the General University Requirements for all students; (b) as minors; (c) as a distinctive block of subjects forming part of the two integrated "X + schemes", i.e. the schemes of "X + AIDA" and "X + IE", where X is a block of subjects selected from an existing programme or specially designed to satisfy disciplinary knowledge requirements.
Teaching is usually in the form of lectures, and sometimes tutorials and seminars. Some classes may be supplemented by laboratory and/or practical sessions.
Your academic progress will be assessed by methods that include assignments, presentations, projects, fieldwork, laboratory work, tests and/or examinations.
Examinations are normally held in December and April / May every year, after the teaching semesters. For programmes with teaching in the summer, examinations are conducted in July.
There are two teaching semesters, each of 13 weeks, and a 7-week summer term. The academic year starts in late August/early September, with the second semester ending sometime in April and the summer term running from May to July.
You can check the Academic Calendar here. Successful applicants will be informed of their class timetables after completion of registration.
