Studying in this programme satisfies my curiosity for Geomatics, from the acquisition to the utilisation of geospatial data, and from using surveying equipment to generating maps. The subjects in this programme have provided me over the past year with an all-round learning experience.

The highlight of the programme is the summer survey camp, which requires students to apply all the skills they had learnt in the past semesters. It acts both as a comprehensive conclusion of the knowledge acquired, and as a catalyst for friendship among classmates. The main task of the survey camp is to generate a survey plan of the campsite. To achieve this goal, coordination of all groups in the class is required, so all of the classmates are working together on the same piece of work. Thus, the camp consolidates both students’ knowledge and the bonding among them.

The department (LSGI) and the programme’s Students’ Society (LSGISS) are also very supportive of students’ career development. Professionals in the industry and experienced surveyors from various institutes were invited to talks held by the department and LSGISS, easing our concerns and answering our questions. The department also provided students with extensive job advice and internship opportunities.

During the past academic year, I have gained a vast knowledge of Land Surveying and Geo-Informatics, along with career information about the industry, which has helped me clarify my studies and my future career path.
