Programme Aims & Learning Outcomes
The programme aims to provide technical knowledge and the training on building surveying, quantity surveying and general practice surveying professions to students at paraprofessional level. Students will also be equipped with the necessary foundation to pursue further professional education in surveying disciplines upon graduation.
Programme Characteristics
The programme has been designed to equip students with the technical skills and knowledge of the construction and real estate industry at paraprofessional level. To cater for the latest development of the industry, elements on Building Information Modelling (BIM) have been emphasised and incorporated into a number of subjects and project work, to prepare our graduates to take the lead in the professional and business environment of the construction and real estate industry. The programme also includes academic elements that foster students’ abilities to pursue further study and lifelong learning after graduation.
Year One: Student will take a number of General University Requirements (GUR) subjects on languages and general education. Subjects related to core professional knowledge will be introduced in the curriculum in Semester 2. Subjects on Safety, workshop practice, construction drawing preparation and information management subjects are also included.
Year Two: Students will typically choose a specific stream (BS/QS/GP), with compulsory set of elective subjects in addition to common core subjects. Students are also required to complete a final year project, in which they must integrate knowledge from different fields of study. BIM applications are emphasised in the final year project.
Between Years One and Two, students are required to complete a “3 training-credit” summer training programme, organised in association with the Industrial Centre (IC) of the University. The training programme consists of elements on engineering design, drawing preparing (with BIM), cost planning and control and project management and execution.

Professional Recognition
The programme is accredited and recognised by the Hong Kong Institute of Surveyors (HKIS) as meeting the academic requirements as Associate Memberships of the Building Surveying (BS), Quantity Surveying (QS) and General Practice (GP) divisions (subject to recognised related working experience and passing the Assessment of Professional Competence for Associate Membership).
Career Prospects
Numerous job opportunities are available in the surveying profession. Graduates can seek employment related to project management, quantity surveying, building surveying, property management or real estate. Graduates awarded “Credit” or above classifications may be admitted to relevant undergraduate programmes (top-up programme).
