Student Message

Student Message

Medical imaging is expanding in terms of diagnosis, treatment monitoring and patient management. Medical imaging and radiotherapy professionals are extending their roles to cope with the rapid evolution of medical technology.

PolyU offers a unique postgraduate programme that covers a wide range of medical imaging or radiotherapy specialisation areas. By taking this programme, I have developed advanced skills and knowledge to enhance my career path. It has also improved my professional competence through discussion sessions with specialists from different disciplines.

Medical Imaging and Radiation Science are interdisciplinary topics involving knowledge of anatomy, pathology, mathematics, physics and computer science. Students are able to take elective subjects offered by other disciplines of study, thus expanding their disciplinary horizons. Students also have the opportunity to mix with other medical/engineering professionals.

As a PolyU graduate, I am now well prepared to become a specialist in my area of practice. Students are equipped with leadership and management skills to become successful leading executives and provide high quality healthcare services in Hong Kong.

Kathy Pang

Medical imaging is a fast growing discipline. Radiographers are expected to continuously expand and extend their roles to provide better clinical services for doctors and patients.

Compared with self-study and in-house training, I prefer to attend lectures, as the materials are usually well organised and relatively easy to understand. I chose to enrol in the MSc in MIRS because this programme offers a wide range of elective subjects covering different imaging specialities. The well-structured courses enable students to easily keep up to date with advanced techniques. For many subjects, experienced local radiographers are invited to deliver guest lectures to share local practices and interesting cases. These insights may be helpful to students in their future careers, especially when making difficult clinical decisions.

This postgraduate programme is recognised by many local imaging institutes. Graduates of this prestigious programme have an advantage when seeking jobs as radiographers.

In sum, this Master’s programme has helped me to equip myself with the latest knowledge in the field and build my career path. I recommend the programme to all junior radiographers who are eager to gain advanced knowledge and become specialists in the future.
