Over the four years of my university life at the ITC, I experienced and learned a lot. My third and fourth years were especially fruitful. In year 3, I gained an eye-opening experience through an exchange trip to London. As well as developing academically and personally, I had the opportunity to explore the culture and beauty of different countries. After my trip to London, I took up a summer internship at Shiseido Hong Kong, a well-known Tokyo-based multi-national cosmetics corporation, following several rounds of interviews. I was delighted that my skills had been recognised. I was assigned to the marketing group, where all of my colleagues were very friendly and willing to coach me. I gained the greatest possible exposure to the company and the industry, as Shiseido is committed to training its student interns and giving them resources and opportunities to attend conferences and join personal development programmes. In my final year, I was honoured to represent PolyU in the Future Retail Challenge of the World Retail Congress, held in Amsterdam. This gave me a wider perspective on the industry around the world and greatly boosted my self-confidence. I have no regrets about my four years of study at the ITC, during which I had the chance to shine.

Lam Ka Yee Charlie

I enjoyed a fruitful school life during my two years’ study as part of the senior year intake of the BA (Hons) Scheme in Fashion and Textiles – Fashion Technology. I learned about interesting topics related to weaving, knitting, dyeing and finishing. I enjoyed the practical classes most. I had the chance to produce fabric myself and build a deeper understanding of fabric manufacturing principles. I am also lucky enough to have had the opportunity to pursue an internship at Luk’s Button Industrial Limited as an assistant in the Quality Assurance Department. I knew much more about the industry after two months in the factory. My summer school experience at Kyoto Institute of Technology was also unforgettable. It broadened my horizons by enabling me to interact with international students and investigate traditional Japanese weaving craftsmanship. In my leisure time, I participated in some activities offered by PolyU with my friends, including mountaineering and a knitting workshop. Through these experiences, I explored new things and achieved personal growth. To conclude, I am glad to have been an ITC student. I grew, learned and met lifelong friends here. I would highly recommend joining this programme if you are passionate about fashion and textiles. You will gain a lot of valuable experience here.

Chung Wing Yi Grace

Studying at the ITC was an amazing and unforgettable experience for me. During my four years of study, I learned about fashion sketching, garment construction, fashion marketing, fashion technology, etc. In addition to academic pursuits, the ITC provides various off-campus learning opportunities. One of the most memorable experiences was definitely the academic exchange programme in New York City. I learned about the real international fashion world by living in this vibrant foreign city for a semester, where I also made friends from different countries. I even had the chance to become a dresser in New York Fashion Week. Having the chance to study overseas was truly a wonderful experience. It expanded my understanding of different cultures and reminded me to always keep an open mind.

ITC graduates are equipped with holistic technical skills and industrial knowledge. I had two internship opportunities in my final year, which were challenging and demanding. I developed all-round skills that are vital for employees in the fashion industry, such as problem solving skills, inter-personal communication skills and a creative mind. Thanks to the skillsets and knowledge I gained from the ITC and my internship experience, my career path had a smooth beginning.

I have had a strong interest in fashion design since childhood. However, I was hesitant about applying to the ITC programme because my drawing skills lacked sophistication. I was lucky enough to be admitted to the programme anyway, and I soon realised that the ITC welcomes everyone who loves and is passionate about fashion. They value your intention and your attitude towards fashion more than the technical skills you have acquired at the admission stage. Students learn many more fundamental skills before they pick a specialism and enter the senior year. Last but not least, if you really have a strong interest in fashion, please do not hesitate to apply to the ITC at PolyU, as it is the only institute to provide a formal university education in this exciting subject.

Fan Kam Wai Isaac

Fashion concerns not only fashion design, but also fashion retail, marketing and technology, demanding comprehensive knowledge of textiles, related technologies, the fashion industry and the fashion supply chain. I am studying fashion retail. My professors not only teach management skills and theories in class, but also emphasise the importance of critical thinking and independent problem-solving skills. Besides, the ITC supports my endeavours and encourages me to extend my perspective globally and enhance my fashion knowledge. For instance, I have had internship and overseas exchange opportunities, entered international competitions and attended expert sharing talks. These activities have given me a practical and effective foundation for my future career. In summer 2019, I joined Lane Crawford China in Shanghai as a student intern, serving in the womenswear department. I gained extensive knowledge, understanding and experience of working for a luxury brand. This promoted my career development. I enjoy my rich and colourful campus life. If you are ready to enter the fashion world, the ITC will welcome you.
