Characteristics
International shipping and transport logistics management is a lively and interesting subject to study, with an emphasis on developing practical skills and academic and professional knowledge.
There is a strong emphasis on interactive and student-centred learning methods, including case studies and simulation exercises. Local and international visits to companies and other organisations are arranged, and senior practitioners are invited as guest speakers to share their practical experiences with students.
All students within the Faculty of Business are encouraged to participate in a range of extracurricular activities, such as leadership training camps, peer tutoring, mentorship.
If students wish, and subject to availability, they can spend a semester studying at another university overseas or in the Mainland China, and have the credits counted towards their PolyU degree.
Work Integrated Education (WIE)
To graduate, every student must complete 100 hours (3 training credits) of WIE. The Department has developed opportunities for students to work in firms either during the summer vacation or as part-timers. Summer placements may be found in Hong Kong, Mainland China or overseas. These, and other forms of work experience, can count towards the WIE requirement.
Students are admitted to the senior year of the 4-year programme and they must complete all of the following subjects to fulfil the credit requirement for graduation. Depending on an individual's academic merits, the credit requirement of graduation is between 60 and 75 (plus 3 training credits). Students are expected to complete the programme within 2 years.

Professional Recognition
1. Graduates are granted full exemption from the Professional Qualifying Examination (PQE) (Logistics Stream) of The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport in Hong Kong (CILTHK).

Career Prospects
Graduates with a BBA (Hons) in International Shipping and Transport Logistics are qualified in and well accepted by many sectors of the shipping and logistics industry, including ship owners, ship brokers, charterers, shipping agencies, air and/or sea freight forwarders, international express operators, third party logistics operators, container terminal operators, warehouse operators, law firms, cargo airlines, liner shipping operators, insurance brokers, marine insurance companies and international protection and indemnity clubs.

PolyU’s LMS is the cradle for most maritime professionals in Hong Kong, and it helped me set a career path in the bulk-shipping industry.
I have gained three degrees from the Department and am especially grateful for the dynamic courses taught at the Higher Diploma and Bachelor levels for allowing me to acquire fundamental ship management, shipping law and marine insurance knowledge.
The Bachelor programme, in particular, not only strengthened my academic knowledge but also my independent living skills. While studying for that degree I joined an international study tour to Singapore, which complemented the operational knowledge I gained from the Higher Diploma programme and gave me the opportunity to collaborate and work with international partners and experts in the field. I also had the chance to join an exchange programme in Denmark, which was an unforgettable experience for me.
If you are interested in the logistics industry, especially in the maritime sector, the programmes offered by LMS are the best options to equip yourself to become a competent, capable and well-qualified practitioner.

Studying at university is the most fulfilling and memorable time of one’s life, especially in terms of personal and career development. My experience of PolyU’s International Shipping and Transport Logistics programme was no exception.
As business majors, we were prepared to pursue a wide range of career prospects, not limited to shipping, through a wide array of subjects on offer, including chartering, maritime law, and transport economics. We were encouraged to think critically, become proficient in all branches of the industry, and plan our career pathways with the support of dedicated and compassionate professors and lecturers.
