Students are awarded one of the following awards on meeting the graduation requirements of the discipline concerned:
For JUPAS applicants, a prescribed percentage (approximately 40%) of the total admission quota shall be given to those applicants with better HKDSE result performance ranked by their DSE admission scores and interview scores. These candidates shall receive an unconditional choice to their preferred programmes / majors within the Scheme after one year of study without being subject to further assessment and allocation procedures. Receiver of the unconditional choice would be notified of this message in the Notice of Offer at JUPAS Main Round offer result announcement.
The remaining percentage (approximately 60%) of JUPAS and non-JUPAS admittees would indicate their priorities on preferred programmes / majors within the Scheme, and shall be ranked by their academic performance in terms of overall GPA scores achieved after one year of study to determine the allocation of their preferred programmes / majors to join in the second year of study.

Offered non-JUPAS applicants who are eligible for an unconditional choice to their preferred programmes / majors within the Scheme after one year of study would be informed of this message in the Notice of Offer as well.
The option of Secondary Major in Artificial Intelligence and Data Analytics (AIDA) is available to the students of BSc (Hons) Building Engineering and Management and the other option of Secondary Major in Innovation and Entrepreneurship (IE) is available to the students of BSc (Hons) in Property Management. Admission to the Secondary Majors are on competitive basis and subject to a different credit requirement for graduation. Please see 'Secondary Major Details" section.
Aims & Learning Outcomes
The aim of the BRE Scheme is to provide an academic platform to develop students’ knowledge, skills, and abilities in the fields of building and real estate through experience of real-world methods and practices. Graduates possess intellectual, vocational, and practical skills relevant to building and real estate and demonstrate independent thinking, curiosity, confidence, and professionalism.
Programme Characteristics
Applicants to the BRE Scheme may choose from the following three programmes:
BSc (Hons) in Building Engineering and Management
This programme provides students with a rich education in building engineering and construction project management. Our graduates are in great demand in the professional building and construction management sectors because they are well prepared to adapt to the changing needs of the construction industry and possess the expertise necessary to plan, coordinate, supervise, and control the multiple complex processes involved in building projects.
BSc (Hons) in Property Management
This programme equips graduates to provide strategic business solutions for corporations and institutions that capitalise on real estate as a business asset, deploy real estate to enhance business value and competitiveness, optimise corporate resources, improve users’ experiences, and prepare for the trends of tomorrow. This is a professionally recognised education programme with a global and practical vision. Offering a wide range of subjects related to building and real estate, the programme provides an interdisciplinary education in property and housing management, facilities management and real estate asset management.
BSc (Hons) in Surveying
This programme nurtures future professionals in the fields of building surveying, general practice surveying (real estate), planning and development, property and facility management, and quantity surveying (construction economics). Graduates possess the knowledge and skills necessary to pursue professional careers in surveying and real estate, and to lead strategy and policy making in the land, property, and construction sectors.
Characteristics of Scheme Based Admission
Students admitted to the BSc (Hons) Scheme in Building and Real Estate will complete a common first year curriculum. Students would then be required to indicate their priority on preferred programmes / majors after the first year of study.
Approximately 40% of students in the Scheme will receive an unconditional choice to their preferred programmes / majors without any restrictions, determined by the ranking of their DSE admission scores and interview scores for JUPAS students, or by means of other relevant outstanding academic results for non-JUPAS students. Qualified JUPAS and non-JUPAS students would be informed at the time receiving the Notice of Offer.
The remaining approximately 60% of students will be required to indicate their priority on preferred programmes / majors before the end of first year of study. These students will then be ranked by their overall GPA scores after one year of study to determine the allocation of their preferred programmes / majors to join in the second year of study.

The option of Secondary Major in Artificial Intelligence and Data Analytics (AIDA) is available to the students of BSc (Hons) Building Engineering and Management.
Features
Students attain Award Major in Building Engineering and Management (BEM) and Secondary Major in Artificial Intelligence and Data Analytics (AIDA) in the 4 years of undergraduate studies.
The programme is designed to train up students to become digitalisation specialists who will lead innovation in the field of construction industry by adopting advanced digital technologies and data-driven approaches. Students are equipped with core principles and practical knowledge in traditional construction technology and management alongside in-depth and integrated understanding of various artificial intelligence and data analytics approaches through interdisciplinary and hands-on training.
Students are allowed to choose core and elective subjects as the Secondary Major (AIDA) requirements that range from basic programming fundamentals to advanced data science and artificial intelligence techniques offered by different departments at PolyU (e.g. Building and Real Estate, Applied Mathematics, Computing, Electronic and Information Engineering, Land Surveying and Geo-Informatics, etc), considering their interests in specific fields of Artificial Intelligence and Data Analytics. Also, all BRE Level 3 and Level 4 subjects of a particular Major or disciplines are offered as electives to students of another Major within the Department.
Through internship and field study, students will be able to acquire practical skills and knowledge, learn industry best practices and latest technologies application, and explore the changing digital technological needs of various stakeholders in the construction industry.
Remarks
1. The total credits required for graduation of BSc(Hons) in Building Engineering and Management (BEM) with the Secondary Major (AIDA) are 144 [including 142 academic credits and 2 training credits (Work-Integrated Education, WIE)]. Details are as follows:
2. Students opting for the secondary major (AIDA) will have only one elective subject whereas the students of the existing major (BEM) will have two elective subjects to choose within their respective programme curriculums.
3. The major programme of BSc (Hons) in Building Engineering and Management is accredited by The Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE), The Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) and The Hong Kong Institute of Construction Managers (HKICM). BSc (Hons) in Building Engineering and Management with secondary major will seek the accreditation from these professional bodies as well.
The option of Secondary Major in Innovation and Entrepreneurship (IE) is available to the students of BSc(Hons) in Property Management.
Features
Students attain Award Major in Property Management (PMT) and Secondary Major in Innovation and Entrepreneurship (IE) in the 4 years of undergraduate studies.
The programme is designed to transform creative and innovative students into entrepreneurs through cross-disciplinary approach, hands-on experience and entrepreneurial activities. Students are equipped with academic knowledge and practical techniques critical to the development of financially viable and technically feasible innovation and entrepreneurship in the real estate industry.
Students are allowed to choose elective subjects as the Secondary Major (IE) requirements that range from accounting and finance, innovation and technology management to marketing, and management offered by different departments or schools at PolyU (e.g. Building and Real Estate, Accounting and Finance, Management & Marketing, Hotel and Tourism Management, Applied Social Sciences, Institute of Textiles and Clothing, etc), considering their interests in specific fields of Innovation and Entrepreneurship. Also, all BRE Level 3 and Level 4 subjects of a particular Major or disciplines are offered as electives to students of another Major within the Department. Students can also opt for some subjects offered by the Department of Applied Social Sciences (i.e. APSS118, APSS4522 and APSS4531) in addition to or in lieu of those electives offered by the Department of Building and Real Estate.
Through internship and field study, students will be able to acquire practical skills and knowledge, learning industry best practices and latest technologies application to inform or support the development of innovation and entrepreneurship.
Remarks
1. The total credits required for graduation of BSc (Hons) in Property Management (PMT) with the Secondary Major (IE) are 153 [including 151 academic credits and 2 training credits (Work-integrated Education, WIE)]. Details are as follows:
2. Both the students opting for the secondary major (IE) and the students of the existing major (PMT) will have the same number of three elective subjects to choose within their respective programme curriculums.

The following two core (compulsory) subjects (a total of 9 credits) provide ample opportunities for students to extend classroom learning through direct observations and experiences that encourage critical thinking, active participation and transfer potential towards innovation and entrepreneurship:
4. Two existing compulsory subjects of the PMT major (6 credits in total: BRE465 - Asset Management and BRE4291 - Real Estate Marketing) shall fulfil the Secondary Major (IE) requirements as Discipline-Specific Electives.
5. The major programme of BSc (Hons) in Property Management is accredited by The Hong Kong Institute of Surveyors (HKIS), The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and The Hong Kong Institute of Housing (HKIH). BSc (Hons) in Property Management with secondary major will seek the accreditation from these professional bodies as well.
Professional Recognition
The three programmes are accredited by the following professional institutions.

Career Prospects
Many graduates of the BSc (Hons) in Building Engineering and Management will join recognised professional training programmes as building engineers or construction managers. They are well prepared to take up positions in construction companies or real estate development companies.
Many graduates of the BSc (Hons) in Property Management go on to train as property managers/officials of housing estates or take up posts in the retail and commercial building sectors in Hong Kong, mainland China, and beyond. Others may receive training in quasi-government organisations such as Hong Kong Housing Society and Urban Renewal Authority, and government departments, such as the Rating and Valuation Department, Lands Department, and Housing Department.
Graduates of the BSc (Hons) in Surveying may wish to train under professional surveyors in various international surveying consultancies, property development companies, construction companies, quasi-government organisations, such as Hong Kong Housing Society and Urban Renewal Authority, or government departments, such as the Rating and Valuation Department, Lands Department, Housing Department, and Architectural Services Department and Buildings Department.

I am currently a Year Two student studying for a BSc(Hons) in Property Management. So far, I have acquired knowledge in areas such as property law, management, accounting and property valuation. I have also had many opportunities to develop my practical skills by engaging in several academic projects. BRE further offered me a chance to be a summer intern at Kai Shing Management Services, a property management company, where I gained valuable experience in managing both residential buildings and shopping malls. I have also participated in extracurricular activities such as being a Student Helper at BRE, an International Student Ambassador and a Peer Mentor, all of which have helped me become a responsible professional while paying attention to detail. I feel very fortunate to be studying at BRE, as it is giving me both theoretical and practical ways to acquire knowledge about property management. Leung Shuk Man, Daisy |  |
 | During my four years studying at PolyU, I gained more than I ever expected. Through internships, hall life, the Service-Learning trip, club activities and exchanges, PolyU provides many opportunities for students to explore themselves.
The exchange to the UK was a highlight for me. I had never been away from my hometown for such a long time. During my time abroad, I was exposed to a different culture and tasked with making a life in a foreign country. I found that I became more mature and was motivated to develop my problem-solving skills when faced with unforeseen situations on my own. It was an enriching and wonderful experience.
Living in halls has been a great way to immerse myself in PolyU life. The various events on campus and in halls put me into close contact with people from different faculties, different years and different backgrounds.
